Pinterest is an underutilised platform for small businesses and it’s not just for home décor and recipes. It’s a positive place where people go to feel inspired and find solutions.
On Pinterest, your content has a much longer shelf life; 16 weeks, in fact, compared to other social media platforms. And the possibilities for repurposing your content are almost endless. A few tweaks here and there and you have a brand-new pin driving traffic to your website for pretty minimal effort.
Whatever your business, you’ll be able to use Pinterest to market it. And with half a billion users, your customers will be there.
Pinterest will help you to:
📌 Grow your email list
📌 Drive traffic to your website
📌 Increase your sales!
Getting a new platform to work for you can take time to get right so I wanted to share my top tips!
1. Optimise your profile
When you create your Pinterest business account the first thing you want to do is optimise your profile.
Keep it on brand and make sure you include your logo and if appropriate, a photo of you. If you’re the face of your brand, then it helps create a sense of brand identity to show your face.
Don't forget to include your business name, a little bit about what you do and make sure you claim your website!
2. Research your keywords
Keywords are the backbone of your Pinterest account and by using the right keywords your Pins will show up in search results. The more your pin is shown, the more traffic referral to your website. Before creating a pin, do your keyword research. Pinners are searching for something specific, so they’re using specific words to search.
Where do you use your keywords?
1. In the pin title
2. In the pin description
3. In the pin image
3. A good clear image in your pin
Nothing obscure or too creative. Put your product front and centre. You want people to instantly recognise and understand your image straight away and encourage them to click on your pin. If you sell a physical product this shouldn’t be difficult. If you offer a service, a relevant stock photo will work just as well
4. Pin consistently
The more you pin, the more your content is going to be seen, and with Pinterest there's no such thing as pinning too much.
But how often should you actually be pinning?
The optimum number of pins per day is 5-10, which is easy to achieve if you have enough content. But if you're a small business and aren't able to consistently create huge amounts of content, then you're going to run out of it pretty quickly if you're pinning 5-10 different pins a day.
As with most social media platforms, on Pinterest, consistency is key, but if you don't have much content, you need to use it sparingly. So, as long as you're being consistent, only posting 1 piece of content a day is enough.
And you can create 7 pins, which is a week’s worth of pins, out of one piece of content.
5. Measure your results and audit
Like all social media platforms, you won’t know what’s working if you don’t track your results. By measuring and auditing you can:
📌 Keep a track of how your pins are performing to see which are the top performing and which need to be improved or deleted
📌 Keep an eye on trends and research and update your keywords where necessary as trends change
📌 Check your links to make sure they aren’t broken or outdated.
📌 Ensure you’re maintaining brand consistency throughout your profile
