How can you use Pinterest to market your business coaching services?

As I’m passionate about telling everyone, Pinterest is not just for cocktail recipes and home décor inspiration. Using Pinterest for your service-based business can reap incredible rewards. With Pinterest, you’re not so much “posting content’ as you are building a visual search funnel to attract your ideal clients.

I’ve been looking at how different service-based businesses can use Pinterest and the focus of this blog is how to make Pinterest work for business coaches.

So how can you use it effectively? Follow these steps and you will soon see an increase in traffic to your website.

Step 1. Make sure you optimise your account

Create a Pinterest Business account, or you can convert your existing personal account.

Create a clear profile

Profile photo (your face = trust)

Bio with keywords like business coach, mindset coach, startup strategy

Link to your website or booking page

It’s important to think of Pinterest as less like Instagram and more like Google

Step 2. Know what your audience is searching for

Your potential clients aren’t necessarily searching “hire a coach” - they’re looking for answers to their questions. So the following content is going to help them find those answers:

  • “how to start a business”
  • “how to get clients”
  • “imposter syndrome tips”
  • “productivity hacks for entrepreneurs”

Do your keyword research before you start creating pins so you know exactly what kind of content your potential clients are looking for.

Step 3. Create pins that your potential clients will want to click on

Each “pin” is like a mini ad for your business and click-worthy pins contain the right mix of great visuals and the right keywords.

When creating your pin make sure that you use:

  • Clear, bold text (e.g. “5 Mistakes New Coaches Make”)
  • Clean design (use tools like Canva)
  • Vertical format (2:3 ratio works best)

And the types of pins that work well for service-based businesses are:

  • Tips & how-tos
  • Lists (e.g. “7 ways to…”)
  • Inspirational quotes (with strategy behind them)
  • Case studies / results

Step 4. Pinterest means traffic to your website so direct it correctly

Pinterest wants Pinners to visit your website so make sure every pin has a web link that leads somewhere useful. The following are useful ideas of where your links can lead to:

  • Blog post
  • Free guide (lead magnet)
  • Webinar signup
  • Coaching application page

Remember! Pinterest equals website traffic

Step 5. Use relevant keywords everywhere

Pinterest isn’t a social media platform; it’s a search engine.

To ensure your content gets found then make sure you add keywords everywhere.

You can add keywords to:

  • Pin titles
  • Pin descriptions
  • Board names
  • Board descriptions

And don’t just use basic keywords e.g. “Tips for Success”; try making them as niche as possible with long-tailed keywords e.g. “Business Coaching Tips for New Entrepreneurs”

Step 6. Pin consistently

Like social media, Pinterest loves consistency. Pinning multiple times a day sounds like a lot, but with scheduling and creating content in batches it's very easy to achieve,

  • Start off with 1 pin a day and aim to increase this to 3–10 pins per day, depending on how much content you have.
  • Use the scheduling tool in Pinterest
  • Repurpose your content; Instagram reels and stories can be repurposed as video pins, and you can create up to 7 pins from one piece of content

Step 7. Create boards that tell pinners exactly what you do and how you can help them

As a business coach you can create boards like the following:

  • “Start Your Coaching Business”
  • “Mindset for Entrepreneurs”
  • “How to Get Clients Online”
  • “Business Growth Strategies”

Each board is a different content funnel towards your services.

Step 8. Always add a lead magnet

People love a freebie and creating one which gets people on your email list is a double win!

You can create lead magnets like the following:

  • “Free Business Plan Template”
  • “Client Attraction Checklist”
  • “30 Days of Content Ideas”

Creating an attractive lead magnet will encourage people to join your email list which in turn will help you attract more clients.

Step 9. Think long-term

Unlike social media, Pinterest can direct traffic to your website for months or even years, just from 1 pin

Pinterest may be more of a slow-burn strategy compared to Instagram, but your content has a much longer shelf-life. Remember - it’s not about going viral, it’s about being searchable.
